Don’t Wait

The berries don’t usually last into July, but… they might. Don’t wait too late to pick fresh, straight-from-the-farm, delicious blueberries and blackberries for your family. Get some to eat now and freeze some for the winter months.

Right now the berries are holding steady and really are a dream to pick. The abundance is real! You can easily fill a bucket while you chat with a friend or perhaps enjoy some quiet time with Mother Nature. Our hours are set to take advantage of the cool mornings and shady evenings.

How it works

We provide a bucket and liner. You keep the liner to gently carry your berries home. It’s that easy! The bucket size is two and a half quarts and the price is $15 per bucket whether you pick blueberries, or blackberries, or a combination. So all you have to do is show up… best if you don’t wait.

Do you spray your plants?

Our berries are grown with organic practices and are not sprayed with any pesticide. The only thing we put on our berry plants is rain, and when it doesn’t rain, we water them with spring water.

What if it rains?

Our pick days are rain or shine. The berries are definitely fresh, rain-washed is a bonus! If Mother Nature sends some rain… its a great chance to wear your boots. (Picking in the rain has proven to be more fun than you would think.)

Should I Rinse the Berries (or Not) Before I Freeze Them?

This has come under some debate on whether its best to rinse and dry the berries before you freeze them. We usually rinse them but if you don’t want to, here is some discussion and a link from Southern Living saying not to rinse them. Well, the choice is yours. You definitely don’t have to rinse any pesticides off because we don’t use any. The rinsing, to us, simply freshens them and removes a few stray leaves or stems, but it certainly is not something you have to do.

Berry season is always too short so don’t wait too late! Whether you freeze, can, dry, or jell some for later, you will be glad to have them this winter.

Evening Pick Only on Father’s Day!

Sunday is Father’s Day

Father's Day

We will be open for just the Evening Pick on Father’s Day 6 – 9PM. (Not the morning pick)

There are so many berries, its a snap to fill a bucket! Bring Dad on Sunday afternoon from 6 to 9PM.  It will be a great time to pick blueberries WITH or FOR the Dad in your family. Nothing says love like fresh, juicy, ripe, hand-picked blueberries!  This makes a great “kid-led” outing. So, give Dad a special treat. Remember that we will be open on Father’s Day Evening from 6-9PM.  We look forward to seeing you then!

Back to regular morning and evening picks on Tuesday, June 21st and Thursday June 23rd.
Morning picks are 8 – 11 AM and Evening picks are 6 – 9 PM.

Cool off with a Blueberry Trifle

blueberry trifleHave you ever heard of Blueberry Trifle? This is a wonderful dessert that is easy to put together. If you are short on time this is the recipe for you.  It is a kid-pleaser, and impressive to serve to a house-full of guests. A trifle is a layered dessert. Most folks make it in a clear punch bowl so you can see the layers. There are lots of recipes with variations that include pudding, sprinkles, and different types of cake.  However, here is a recipe for a “three-ingredient blueberry trifle” from Pretty Providence. Its perfect for a hot summer evening.

Freezing Blueberries

If you are going to freeze some antioxidant rich fruit for the winter months, now is the time!  There is an abundance of blueberries ready to be picked.  Once you get home, simply rinse your berries, and place them on a paper towel covered cookie sheet to dry and sort. You can roll them around easily and they dry quickly. Then on a cookie sheet with no paper towel, lay the berries in a single layer and put that in the freezer for several hours. Once the berries are frozen, you can put them into a freezer bag and store in the freezer.  Freezing in a single layer allows you to easily take out individual berries later on. You can grab a handful to eat or to quickly put into blueberry pancakes (no need to thaw). You can also easily measure out a cup or two of berries to use in a recipe.

Father’s Day would be a great time to pick “extra” berries with all the helpers… just sayin’.

Fresh Summertime Fun

Fresh is best

Our next pick dates are:
Sunday June 12th,
Tuesday June 14th, and
Thursday June 16th.
Morning Pick is 8 – 11 AM and Evening Pick is 6 – 9 PM

It’s berry season!

Rain-washed berries, ripe and ready to pick, are about as fresh as you can get. Make yourself and your friends & family feel special by hand-picking dessert! Blueberries are nutritious, delicious, and plentiful right now. Our blueberries and blackberries are grown with organic practices and are not sprayed with any pesticides. We have way more blueberries than blackberries, so if you want to snag the blackberries you have to come early.

What if it rains?

Our pick days are rain or shine. The berries are definitely fresh, rain-washed is a bonus! If Mother Nature sends some rain… its a great chance to wear your boots. (Picking in the rain has proven to be more fun than you would think.)

We hope to see you soon.  Berry season is always too short so don’t wait!

Great Opening Day

Opening Day

Beautiful opening day turnout

Thank you to all the beautiful folks that picked rain-washed blueberries on Tuesday! Opening day was great with the weather cooperating. It was not too hot, not too sunny, and not raining – although it was still a little wet from previous showers. (see next pick information below!)

Next Pick

Our next pick day is Thursday, June 9th, 2022. Morning pick is 8AM – 11AM and Evening pick is 6PM – 9PM
We are open on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays in June while the berries are ripe.

Berry Picking Opens June 7th, 2022

June 7th

Three days a week – Three weeks of berry picking starts now – June 7th

Welcome to summer blueberry picking 2022! It’s a short season, but the blueberries are ripening fast with huge “first fruits.” Rabbiteye Farm will be open for blueberry picking TUESDAYS, THURSDAYS, and SUNDAYS beginning Tuesday, June 7th! Morning picks are 8AM – 11AM and Evening picks are 6PM – 9PM.

Summertime is definitely here and you can taste it in the berries! If you’ve never picked blueberries before, look for the biggest and darkest blue berries like the ones on the left, and more will continue to ripen each day.

Blueberries are “SmileBerries!” Both the smiles and the blueberries are wonderful. (We grow our berries with organic practices and do not use any pesticides.)

2022 blueberries are taste-tested and approved for picking beginning June 7th!

When does it get hot?

It starts getting hot around 10:30AM, that’s why our morning pick hours are from 8 – 11AM. It’s beautiful picking early in the morning.  In the evening, if its sunny, shade begins on the berries around 6PM and picking is great by 7PM. That’s why our evening pick hours are from 6 – 9PM.  We are rain or shine.

What about Blackberries?

June 7th is still a little early for our blackberries, but you may find a few that are ripe.  Both blueberries and blackberries can be picked in the same bucket. The price is the same.

Three weeks of berry picking starts June 7th.

Our pick days are every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday with regular morning and evening pick hours on those days. We hope to see you this season!  Thank goodness the berries are finally ripening!
